ABOUT PATTY & DAVE

Since 2006, Dave and Patty Smith have been guiding their clients to achieve their real estate goals.Patty moved to Northern Virginia with her family and enjoyed growing up in the Springfield andChantilly areas, attending West Springfield High School and graduating from Chantilly High School.Dave and his Mother and Grandmother made the move from Detroit to Annandale in 1974, where heenjoyed attending elementary school and then Lake Braddock Secondary School (Go Bruins!),where he graduated. While both Dave and Patty attended and eventually graduated from George Mason University, they actually met when they both held management positions at Sears Roebuck in Fair Oaks Mallin the early 1980's. Those were the days of "Super Saturday" sales that packed the parking lotsand caused everyone to work a 12 hour day ringing up sales. 🙂After graduating with a Degree in Philosophy, Patty enjoyed a career in Human ResourceManagement with Aetna Life and Casualty, while Dave applied his degree in Business byworking with first Xerox and then Pitney Bowes in Facilities Management. In 2006, Dave embarked on a career in Real Estate, first as an Agent in West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Patty first worked as his Assistant while transitioning out of her previous role and then joined him as a teammate in 2009.Dave specialized in finding vacation properties for buyers who lived in the DMV, so he soldlarge land parcels and cabins throughout the area and was a top producer. In 2015, they moved to the historic district in Winchester City and loved it!They enjoyed walking around the historic district, dining in the unique local restaurants, andtaking in all of the cultural events offered at the Shenandoah University Conservatory. The passing of Patty's Father in 2017 inspired Patty and Dave to move back into the beltway areato be closer to her Mother and remaining family. After achieving success as the #1 small team in the Winchester area, Patty and Dave were sorryto leave that area but excited to return to the area where they both grew up.From 2017 until now, they have enjoyed sharing their expertise and knowledge of the wide arrayof neighborhoods, transportation options, and cultural activities that this area has to offer. As the daughter of a service Member, Patty moved a total of 17 times growing up, so that hasenabled her to be in touch with the feelings of military families who are tasked with moving to thisarea, often having never lived in the DC area before. So she approaches her work with a deeperlevel of empathy as she guides her clients through the transition of finding their community and home here.Dave was diagnosed with an agressive form of skin cancer that was initially not responsive totreatment in 2015, one week after the passing of Patty's father. Through setbacks and the ups anddowns of treatments that often did not produce the results they were hoping for,Dave and Patty worked without missing a beat, always putting their client first. Dave often left a chemo treatment to meet a client and show them homes, conduct a final walkthrough or attend a settlement to congratulate a client for achieving their dream of finding theirideal home.Throughout the pandemic, Patty and Dave worked tirelessly to show homes virtually to clients who still needed to relocate, showing an average of 400 homes per year during thatperiod of time. Although Dave was at the height of his cancer battle, he did not miss a singleshowing, walk through or home inspection and ensured that each client received the full servicethat they deserved, even during those difficult and uncertain times. These experiences have helped Patty and Dave in counseling clients during the uncertainty ofthe past few years with more compassion and empathy, as they both understand that moving forward in uncertain times isn't easy but is always possible.Patty has a passion for working with first time buyers, maybe because her own family had to moveso often and never really had a sense of home during those years. She has developed an expert knowledge of the programs available to clients seeking their firsthomes, and she has also created connections with lenders who have the knowledge and expertiseneeded to provide their clients with the best opportunity to buy a home, leveraging grant funds and discounted interest rates.Dave has a passion for executing every aspect of the contract process. His degree in BusinessManagement gave him a strong attention to detail, so he has a truly in depth understanding ofthe documents that make up the offer and listing process. He has spent thousands of hours meeting with clients to explain the offer process and to ensurethat each client has the resources and information needed to take the step of writing an offer orlisting their home for sale. Although sourcing and showing homes is a large part of what Dave and Patty do, they both find that the consultations and guidance that they provide as their clients journey through thehome buying and selling process is the most important aspect of their work.Nothing can replace 17 years of experience in negotating the sale of a home, or the 40+years of experience selling homes in nearly every condo building, townhome and singlefamily neighborhood in our area. When you meet Patty and Dave, the first thing they will do is take the time to listen to yourneeds, desires and goals. They will then use all of their expertise and experience to guide andsupport you towards reaching your goal at your pace. For Patty and Dave, it's about community - finding the neighborhood that you want to call homeor finding the next buyer who wants to buy their home and continue the legacy of homeownership.Nothing can replace successful experience, so don't settle for anything less than having 2 agentswith over 40 years of experience living in the DC area and almost 2 decades of expertise practicing real estate to help you every step of the way in your real estate journey.
